Carling Reading and Leeds Festival 2007

Once again another Reading and Leeds festival passes by without my attendance. Ever since I knew what good music was i've wanted to go, but each year it just never seems to happen. But after viewing some of the outstanding performances this year, i'm even more determined to attend.
However for now you'll have to do with my review of the festival through watching highlights courtesy of BBC Radio 1.

There were SO many great bands at the festival this year, which meant there were many good sets, however the following bands in my opinion gave really inspired performances, who really took things to the next level, and completely owned the stage.
LOSTPROPHETS : Since releasing third album "Liberation Transmission", LP have developed a stage presence and sound that has truly taken them above their piers. The standout track was "Burn Burn" which really got the crowd moving. View their set highlights HERE

THE HORRORS : I thought The Horrors were excellent. The keyboardist was crazy, his eyes were mentally bright eyed. The band put on a confident display, and played with a good degree of attitude. Definately going to give their album another listen. Standout track was "Count In Fives". View their set highlights HERE

THE KLAXONS : Not that they would admit it, but for me The Klaxons would have felt some pressure to deliver at this years festival. The hype machine has been working overtime over the past year. But to their credit they put on an excellent display. Looking forward to hearing some new material. Standout track was "Magick"
View their set highlights

ENTER SHIKARI : For me, Enter Shikari put on the performance of the festival. Their whole set was full of energy, and that really relayed to the crowd who were going crazy. The combination of dance beats and synths with heavy guitars and drums, mixed with the dual vocals, really came alive on stage. It was inspiring stuff. Standout track was "Sorry You're Not A Winner" Checkout their set highlights HERE

Single Review - David Ford

Today i'm reviewing the latest single i've been sent from the lovely people at Independiente Records (Home to Travis, Embrace, and Gomez amongst others).

The track is called "Go To Hell" and comes from British based singer/songwriter, David Ford.

David Ford is a Singer/Songwriter from Kent, in the UK. Before becoming a solo artist, he was the frontman for an Indie band called Easyworld, who released two full length albums before splitting up in 2004. Since that point he has extensively toured the UK, ranging from small intimate shows to supporting bands such as Starsailor, and even his own sold out headline tour. That was in support of his critically acclaimed debut album "I Sincerly Apoligize For All The Trouble I've Caused".

After touring and releasing that album in the UK, Ford turned his attention to the US. The album received excellent reviews in magazines such as Rolling Stone and Variety, and he supported artists such as Richard Ashcroft and Ray Lamontagne.

This brings us to 2007, and the release of his new album, titled "Songs For The Road".

Single Review - "Go To Hell"
This is the opening track from the new album, and is clearly a statement of intent. It is lyrically aggressive towards himself, deeply emotional, and very powerful stuff. The track starts slow and quickly moves through the gears as more elements are added. Each time you listen to it you pick up on something new, a particuarly attractive element for music listeners.

What really stands out on this track compared to Ford's previous releases is the production. Everything sounds so powerful, you can really hear each element within the music. Ford himself recognised this difference between his releases, stating that "My first album was basically bedroom demos with ideas way above their station, this one sounds more like a record.” He enlisted the help of producers James Brown, Kevin Bacon, and Jonathan Quarmby to acheive the sound he wanted, and its definatley lifted him to a new position.

The single "Go To Hell" is out now. The new album "Songs For The Road" is released on Independiente Records on the 15th of October 2007. But you can download the album by going HERE

He will be on tour in the UK during October to support the release of the album, you can check the dates by going to his MYSPACE.

We'll Live and Die in These Towns

This evening I wanted to talk about a young British band called, The Enemy.

The Enemy come from Coventry in the West Midlands, and formed in 2005. They consist of Tom Clarke on Lead Vocals and Guitar, Liam Watts on Drums, and Andy Hopkins on Bass Guitar. The band play a mixture of attitude filled Rock and Roll, high energy Punk, and Pop hooks. They have swiftly risen to a position of being one of the UK's brightest young bands who look set to be the next big thing. The band are very proud of their home city, Coventry, dedicated their debut to the people of coventry, and signing it with the phrase "While we sing together, we will never lose".

The Enemy's debut album is entitled "We'll Live and Die in These Towns" and has just recently been released in July 2007. The album has received rave reviews, even going to number 1 in the official UK album charts. Although being young, the band sound well beyond their years, with a really confident sound. The band will be on tour during September and October, joining Lethal Bizzle and The Wombats for the 2007 NME Rock N Roll Riot Tour. Check the dates by going to the bands myspace.

2 For 1:CSS & The Wombats

I thought i'd tell you about two different bands in one post.

I'm really breaking boundaries here aren't I?!

First up its CSS.
CSS are one of the best new artists to have emerged during the past year. FACT. They come from Brazil, South America, and for the past year or two have been religiously playing tours and festivals across the world, usually to rave reviews.

This year has seen the release of their debut album entitled "Cansei De Ser Sexy". It is blend of many genres, ranging from Pop, Synths, Electronica, Punk, Indie, and Electro-Rock. Its inspiring music, quite unbelievable that its their first album. They are currently doing the Summer festival circuit and will then be heading out on a European tour. (Check their Myspace for details).

Checkout these two tracks.

Download: CSS - Let's Make Love and Listen To Death From Above

Download: CSS - Off The Hook

The second band I want to draw your attention to is The Wombats.

The Wombats formed in 2005 and come from Liverpool in the UK. Their debut album is due to be released later this year in October. The band play a hybrid of Indie and Pop Punk Rock, but what really stands out for me is the songwriting ability of the band. The choruses are really catchy and will stick in your head for hours! You can catch them throughout their mammouth tour during the months of August, September, and October. Again check the bands Myspace for more details.

Have a listen to these tunes!

Download: The Wombats - Backfire At The Disco

Download: The Wombats - Moving To New York

And finally to nicely finish this post, checkout this Wombats track remixed by CSS. (It's almost like they knew about my blog and did this remix for me).
