We recently caught up with Claws, one of the artists we nominated for this years Glastonbury Emerging Talent Competition, for a quick chat to find out more about them and to see how they feel about making the 2016 longlist.
ML: Congratulations on making it onto the longlist for this years
Glastonbury Emerging Talent Competition, how does it feel to make the
list?
CLAWS: Thankyou! It feels great! – to be picked out of thousands
of entrants makes us feel pretty special & lucky. I've had a listen to a
lot of the other acts on the list & there is so much good stuff
coming out of the UK at the moment.
ML: Seems that you guys
are definitely into your gigs from the amount of live shows you've been
playing recently, what do you like about playing live?
CLAWS: Playing
to completely different people & getting different reactions from
different crowds. It's always fun getting to travel & see different
places. Also, getting to properly interact with people who like your
music & meet other bands in the same situations as you.
ML: Have you been to Glastonbury before, and what would it mean to you to play there?
CLAWS: We
haven't, but I think we have collectively been to almost every other UK
festival. Glastonbury is a huge deal & to be able to play it would
be a dream come true. We all love going to festivals – it’s the
highlight of our year.
ML: What made you decide to enter this years ETC? Have you entered before?
CLAWS: I saw it advertised on the Glastonbury website and thought I would give
it a shot. We have never entered before & feel very lucky to be
chosen for the longlist.
ML: Lets say you make it to the main stage at Glastonbury, what's the three things you have on your tour rider?
CLAWS: Pizza, Beer & Simpsons Lego Figures
ML: For those who don't know you, how would you describe your sound/style, and what are you influences?
CLAWS: We
are a mixture of sounds all rolled into one. I would describe us as
surf-punk with a sprinkle of pop. We all have different musical
influences but my Top 3 personal influences would have to be Weezer, The
Cribs & Best Coast.
ML: What does 2016 have in store for Claws?
CLAWS: We
are going to be releasing a new 4 track EP in the summer &
hopefully touring around the UK & Europe towards the end of the
year.
ML: Where can we find out more about you?
