New Wave Of Music #12

Its been a week and thats far too long, but here's another post of awesome tunes that i've come across recently. I've also changed the colours of the blog to refresh things a bit, you like?

MP3: Blood Red Shoes - You Bring Me Down
This will be the second time this track has been released, but its a stormer so who cares. Its out on the 4th Feb on Mercury. I'm seeing them in Cardiff for their UK tour so look out for the gig review. Blood Red Shoes

Hercules And Love Affair - Blind (Feat. Anthony Hegarty) [Go to the myspace to check the song out]

This track has grown on me every time i've heard it, its awesome! The distinctive vocals come from Anthony Hegarty from Anythony And The Johnsons. Hercules And Love Affair / Anthony And The Johnsons

MP3: N.E.R.D - Everyone Nose

New track from N.E.R.D, which appears to also be the first single off the forthcoming new album. It seems most people aren't into it, but I really quite like it. N.E.R.D

MP3: The Ting Tings - Great DJ

Haven't really got into this band till I heard this track. So it'll be interesting to hear some more of their material. This single will be released on the 3rd March on BMG. The Ting Tings

MP3: Hearts Revolution - Prism Effect

Fans of Crystal Castles should like this duo, who share a similar love for electro fused noise. This is a fairly chilled out track by their standards but it works well. Hearts Revolution

MP3: The Mars Volta - Wax Simulacra

This is the first single off the new Mars Volta album "Bedlam In Goliath" which came out this week on Mercury. Its a typically mental record, check it out! The Mars Volta

New Wave Of Music #11

There is a whole truck load of awesome music around at the moment, there aren't enough hours in the day! I've also been receiving some excellent bits and pieces through my inbox recently, so i'll be soon starting a weekly inbox post, so keep it coming!

I was quickly bored of the original track when it came out last year. But this Drum and Bass remix really ticks all the boxes, and the guys from Chase And Status have turned it into a really wicked track. Hadouken! / Chase And Status

Check out the beat on this track, ouch! Many will reference M.I.A and rightly so, and thats not a bad thing. Santogold aka Santi White is very talented, and will be huge this year. Santogold

Anybody who samples a Slayer song in their music must be applauded. This is the geezer from Damn Arms, who has created a nice fusion of metal and house music. G.L.O.V.E.S

This band are stuck in the 1970's by the sound of it, I reckon we keep them there! Theres a big awesome riff and crazy drumming, and solo's, and everything! Album "In The Future" is out now. Black Mountain

Released late last year, this debut single from Ebony Bones is full of ideas and has an awesome dark heavy beat. One to watch this year me thinks. Ebony Bones

New album out this year from a band with an impressive back catalogue, and if this track is anything to go by it should be excellent. Supergrass

Electronic Bombs

Hey! I've really been into my electronic music at the moment, so I thought I'd post my current favourites for you to get your lovely ears around. Hope you enjoy!

MP3: The Chemical Brothers - The Salmon Dance (Crookers Remix)
First up its an absolute gem of a remix from Crookers, who have put their marvellous talents to The Salmon Dance. Crookers Myspace

MP3: Crookers - Knobbers
And this is the new one from them, you can find it on an E.P which will be out on Southern Fried in February.

MP3: Funkabit - Discount
Another Italian twosome that have caught my attention are Funkabit. This track is wicked and can be found on their E.P titled "Discount" which is out now on Mozzarella Recordings. Funkabit Myspace

MP3: The Black Ghosts - Anyway You Chose To Give It (The Whip Remix)
This was a cool track anyway, but with the added input of hype darlings The Whip it an absolute charmer. The Black Ghosts Myspace / The Whip Myspace

MP3: Crystal Castles - Untrust Us
A slightly less chaotic track from Crystal Castles, still incredibly catchy though. Really looking forward to the full length album. Crystal Castles Myspace

MP3: Marilyn Manson - You and Me and The Devil Makes 3 (Adam Freeland Remix)
In todays music scene, Adam Freeland is an old timer, but the founder of "Breakbeat" has still got it from the sound of this track. Adam Freeland Myspace

Sabrosa Purr - To The Crickets And The Ghosts

Hey, here's the first album review of the year. It comes from a band called Sabrosa Purr, with their debut album titled "To The Crickets And The Ghosts", which is out now on Violet Room Records.

Sabrosa Purr are a rock band from Los Angeles, California. They consist of three members, Will Love (Vocals/Guitar), Jacob Thompson (Drums), and Jeff Mendel (Lead Guitar/Foot Bass). The band have released an E.P titled "The Violet Room" which came out in 2005, and this new release is their debut full length. It is produced by Tracy Chisholm. Listening to this album, a couple of influences soon become pretty clear. One minute the band sound like Nirvana at their most furious, and then there are soft mellow Pink Floyd moments. Both things are definitely not a bad thing, and Sabrosa Purr draw upon their influences to create their own sound.
Vocalist Will Love has a tremendous vocal range, from full on lung bursting screams, to gentle haunting whispers. Alongside some solid drumming from Jacob Thompson, and Lead Guitarist Jeff Mendel's awesome solos and riffs, it leads to one hell of a diverse and engaging album which is full of attitude.

One interesting thing about Sabrosa Purr is that they do not have a bass player. The band apparently see little need for one, and as far as this album goes you can see why. When playing live, the tracks that they do require bass for are done by Mendel, using a foot bass. Not entirely sure what that is but I'd love to see that live one day!

Find out more about the band by going to their myspace.

New Wave Of Music #10

Hey! Right this is the first proper post of 2008, enough of the lists. And what a post it is, if I do say so myself! I seem to have an abundance of really exciting new music being directed towards my ears so far this year. Which means this post is jam packed of wicked tunes! So lets get into it, let me know what you think of the bands, your thoughts are always welcomed!

MP3: CHAINGANG - Get Off My Stage
Spiel: This is the first song from this brand new band from Australia. And its VERY good! Similar to Blood Red Shoes, theres a constant thumping beat, big guitars, and awesome vocals, which come from Hayley of Pinky Tuscadero. More

MP3: Hot Pink Delorean - Played Out (Feat. Fantastadon)
Spiel: Apart from having a wicked name, this trio from Boston in America, also make some damn fine house music. This track has a big beat and a cleverly worked vocal, creating a very danceable track. More

MP3: Girls Can't Dance - Plastic People
Spiel: This is an exciting young band from Leeds. Playing a mix of energetic beats, crunchy guitars, and melodic vocals, this four piece have destroyed the students of Leeds, & are now after you! More

MP3: Kid Acne - Sliding Doors
Spiel: Ok this isn't quite as fresh as the other tracks, but i've only just got my hands on it. Clearly influenced by the Beastie Boys, Kid Acne puts his Sheffield accent and humour to wicked beats, creating highly addictive tunes. More

MP3: The Futureheads - Crash
Spiel: This was a track that the band made available during christmas, and its really good! Not sure if it'll be on the new album, but if this track is anything to go by then the third LP from the Sunderland lads should be awesome! More

MP3: Fortyfives - Control
Spiel: Just to show im not against the southerners, heres a cool young band from Berkshire. Fortyfives play a fine blend of melodic post punk electro, which captures the sound of now. I expect big things from them this year. More

Tips For 2008

What with it now being 2008, I thought I'd share my picks for the artists I think are going to have a successful time over the next 12 months.

Los Campesinos! - Debut full length album is released from this highly talented welsh group. Titled "Hold On Now, Youngster..." it is expected to be released on 25th February. Myspace

Foals - Signed to Sub Pop records, Foals debut album titled "Antidotes" will be released in March. Really looking forward to this release which surprisingly excludes hits "Hummer" and "Mathletics".

Blood Red Shoes - Exciting twosome set to release their first long player, apparently named "Box Of Secrets" sometime in March/April. Check the bands myspace for details of their January/February tour.

Late Of The Pier - Signed to Parlaphone Records, Late Of The Pier are currently writing their debut album which should appear sometime this year.

Adele - "19" is the debut album from young soul singer Adele. Having already won a Brit award in 2007, this year should be even more successful for the XL records signed artist.

Does It Offend You, Yeah? - One of my favourite bands of last year, Does It Offend You Now will be releasing a full length album titled "You Have No Idea What Your Getting Yourself Into", sometime during March on Virgin Records.

Friendly Fires - Don't know too much about this band, just that at the tail end of the year they put out the awesome single "Paris", so im hoping for more of the same this year.

Hadouken! - Despite having mixed feelings when seeing Hadouken! last year, I'm still looking forward to the release of their debut full length album. The as yet unnamed album should be released sometime in April.

Laura Marling - Highly talented singer songwriter, Laura Marling, will be releasing her debut album on Virgin Records. The album titled "Alas I Cannot Swim" will be released on 4th February.

Operator Please - The UK release of Australians Operator Please debut album "Yes Yes Vindictive", is set to be the 3rd March. A full UK tour is expected in February. This band will be huge!

Outl4w - Incredibly young Punk band who have big things ahead of them. Hopefully will release some new material soon, checkout the following awesome track from last year.

Bullet For My Valentine - 2008 sees the release of BFMV second album, titled "Scream Aim Fire". It is released through Visible Noise on 28th January. And if the first single (21/01/07) and title track is anything to go by, its going to absolutley awesome!

(Please note all mp3's have now been removed)
